Rep. Rangel on the Ryan Budget and Healthcare

March 23, 2012 - Congressman Charles Rangel speaks on the recently proposed Ryan Budget from House Republicans during the week of the 2nd Anniversary of the Affordable Care Act. He calls on Republicans to abandon their attacks on President Obama and join Democrats in working on a fair and balanced budget while protecting healthcare. This week Republicans have rolled out their budget for fiscal year 2013 and it's déjà vu all over again. House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan proposed a radical budget that, once again, chooses to provide tax cuts for the wealthy instead of focusing on job creation and ensuring healthcare for working Americans. In a nutshell, the proposed Ryan Budget focuses on a system that benefits a few while the rest of America gets dealt an unfair hand. Democrats understand the imperative for deficit reduction and revenue increase. However, we believe in a balanced approach that promotes fairness and shared responsibility while moving our country forw! ard. Rather than ending the Medicare guarantee, which would raise costs for seniors, we should be working together to preserve and strengthen Medicare for future generations. Perhaps worst of all, instead of trying to repeal the new healthcare law that is providing millions of Americans access to better and more affordable healthcare, Republicans should work with us to expand it so that no American goes uncovered.
